HOW TO BE PRODUCTIVE BY PLANNING

For those of you who like to fly by the seat of your pants, this may be a hard concept for you. One of the best ways to be more productive during your day is by planning things out. Start doing this and you'll see some drastic changes in organization and productivity. Not to mention less stress in your life!

PLAN ENTIRE WEEK ON SUNDAY

One way to keep from stressing out on Monday morning is to plan your entire week out on Sunday. Look at what the entire next week will hold so that you know how to plan your life accordingly! This includes meals, appointments, errands, activities and anything else that you need to plan for during the week. Doing this will help you to be more productive, I promise!

PLAN EACH DAY IN BLOCKS

increase productivity with a block schedule, from Fun Cheap or Free

My favorite way to do this is to use my Productivity Planner!

You can also use my free printable block schedule to help you to plan out your days to stay productive and organized. You basically plan your day in chunks of time rather than hour-by-hour, which allows you to be more productive with your time. If you need more info on how to do this, make sure that you check out THIS post.

MEAL PLAN

The biggest way to save time (and money) is to plan out your meals for the week, according to your schedule. My free weekly meal planner is one of the best ways to organize and keep track of that! Make a grocery list according to what you need, using food that you have on hand first. (Thank you, shelf cooking!) Be sure to include a leftovers night, too! It'll make at least one night a week super simple and it keeps from being wasteful with your food.

ORDER GROCERIES ONLINE

Wanna know a great way to be more productive during your day? Order your groceries online and use Walmart's grocery pickup! That will save your time so that you're not needlessly walking around the store, wasting precious time. Use THIS link to get $10 off your first order of $50!

If you want to take it one step further, use Instacart and let someone else do your grocery shopping for you and deliver it to your door! Talk about being productive while you're at home, you don't even have to leave your house and waste time shopping at all. Talk about winning!

EMPTY YOUR SINK EVERY NIGHT

It's so much better to start the morning off with an empty sink and clean dishes to put away. With our big family, I've found that it's best to run the dishwasher every night. (If it's not completely full, I'll run it on a light load.) If your family isn't big enough to justify running the dishwasher every night, that's fine! Just make sure that your sink is empty and the dishes are in the washer or clean on a drying rack before you go to bed.

REVIEW YOUR DAY EACH MORNING

Every morning, take 5-10 minutes to look over your day to make sure that you don't miss anything important that's happening. You can also adjust your blocks and the things that you need to accomplish within them to make sure that your day is as productive as possible.

MAKE A “TO-DO” LIST FOR KIDS

checklist for kids, from Fun Cheap or Free

Before my kids go to school, they have a “to-do” list that they have to complete before leaving. Having the checklist has helped me out so much in the mornings! They know what they have to do before school and it keeps me from having to stay on top of them since they can read their lists.

This really helps to teach them some productive habits at a young age. Written reminders, for both kids and adults, are never a bad idea when it comes to being productive!

HOW TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE IN YOUR DAILY LIFE

There are some aspects of your daily life that you may not realize are slowing you down. Start applying these great tips and see how you can become more productive and organized!

USE PORTABLE MAKEUP BAG

If your day includes putting on makeup, then make sure that those products are easily accessible to you. If you always do your makeup in the same spot, then just keep it all together to make it easier to grab.

However, if you're like me, then you likely do your makeup anywhere and everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere. Depending on what I have going on, I could be doing it in 2 separate bathrooms, on my kitchen island, at my desk, or even in my car. Rather than having to pack it up each and every time that I'm not doing it in my upstairs bathroom, I keep mine in a makeup bag.

This lets me save time and I can grab it and take it with me wherever I need it. (If you want to see a detailed video over how I do my makeup, then check out that post HERE.)

LEAVE “GET READY” ITEMS IN MULTIPLE BATHROOMS

Since I have a bathroom on each floor of my house, I leave my “get ready” products in each of those bathrooms. I'm talking things such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, my favorite $5 hairbrush, and hair products. This allows me to save time from walking up and down the stairs to get whatever I need.

SET UP A SNACK/LUNCH SYSTEM

One way that I have saved so. much. time. (and sanity!) is to create a snack and lunch system for my kids. They know where the snacks are that they're allowed to eat at home and what they can use to pack their lunches. You can get more details about how I portion out bulk foods for snacks to save my time HERE.

THE MICROWAVE PRINCIPLE

While we're on the subject of food, let me give you a quick tip to be more productive and organized! It's called “the microwave principle.” I go into it into more detail in THIS video, but here's the quick version… When you're heating up your food in the microwave, be productive during the time that it's going. Clean your sink, sweep your floor, wipe down your counters, do whatever can be done in that short amount of time! You can thank me later. 😉

AUTOMATE YOUR LIFE

It may sound crazy, but automating your life can really help you to save time during your day! No more worrying about if you turned the lights off after you leave the house, or turned the lamp off after you're already in bed.

We've started using C by GE products in parts of our house and they're so helpful! They have light bulbs, light switches, and outlets, among other things, that you can control with your phone. If you leave the room and remember that you forgot to turn something off, just use your phone! It'll help to keep you on track and productive. Because if you're anything like me, stopping what you're doing and going into another room is a surefire way to be distracted into doing something else! 😉

HOW TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE AND ORGANIZED

Sometimes you think that in order to clean your house, or organize a room, you've got to have a big chunk of time to do it. But that's simply not true! These simple concepts will help you to become more productive and organized without having to put a lot of time towards it.

DO 15-MINUTE POWER CLEANS

If your house needs to be tidied up, but you don't really have the time to really get into it, then I've got the fix for you! Set a timer on your phone for 15 minutes and get as much picked up, cleaned and organized as you can in that time. Once your timer goes off, stop what you're doing and move on to the next thing!

This allows you to get some organization or cleaning done without letting it to take up your whole day. You could do this multiple times a day and get quite a lot done in a small amount of time! If you'd like more details on this, make sure that you check out THIS post.

NEVER LEAVE A ROOM EMPTY-HANDED

One key way to stay productive and organized is to live and breathe this concept. When you leave a room and there's something that doesn't “live” in that room, take it with you. Either put it where it goes, or have a basket that houses all of the things. Then at the end of the day, make sure that someone empties the basket and puts all of the things in their home!

DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IN 60-SECOND SPURTS

It's crazy how you can get so much done in a short amount of time when it comes to productivity and organization. Focus on what you can get done in 60 seconds or less and watch how it really improves your day! It can really help you to get through a project or a task when you break it up like that.

MULTITASK THE PROPER WAY

I touch on this in depth in Productivity Bootcamp (use the code FCFBLOG for 10% off!). Procrastination and multitasking can be a huge hindrance to productivity. However, if you do it the right way, you can actually still be productive while multitasking!

My quick fix for this is to pair a mindless task with a mindless task. Multitasking will not work if one of the tasks is important or takes up brain space! It'll slow you down and you won't do your best work. However, if you organize your bathroom while watching your kids in the bathtub, you can multitask like the champ that you are!

Whew, well there you have it! Now you know my best tips on how to be more productive and organized during your day to keep you on track. What's your favorite way to stay productive and organized? Let me know in the comments!
