Total game changer! Read this post, take what I say to heart, start appling these morning hacks to your life, and your mornings will be changed forever!

SHOWER AT NIGHT

Yes, you read that right! My first morning hack for both you and your kids is to shower at night instead of in the morning. I know that it may be hard for some of you to work that through your brain, but showering at night lets you go to bed clean and that's such a wonderful feeling! It also helps to save you SO. MUCH. TIME. in the mornings. Like seriously, so much time. I'm talking at least 45 minutes!

Start showering and styling your hair at night, then all you have to worry about are minor touch-ups to your hair in the mornings. If you're worried about messing up your hair, look into getting a silk pillowcase since they help to combat that lovely bedhead that we can all get.

LAY OUT TOMORROW'S CLOTHES

My second morning hack is actually something that you do the night before. Go through your closet and dresser and lay out the clothes that you're going to wear in the morning. Do this for both you and your kids! It takes the stress out of trying to figure out what you're going to wear in the morning.

No more standing in front of your closet trying to put an outfit together in the morning! Even if your kids wear uniforms, it's still a good morning hack. You don't have to worry about them digging through their drawer trying to find some pants in the mornings, because they're already laid out, ready to be put on.

This may sound crazy, but we take this a step further for one of my daughters and she actually sleeps with her school clothes on. She was always chronically late, moving so slow in the mornings, and would take forever to change out of her pajamas into her school clothes. She's just not a morning person (#shegetsitfromhermama) and we got tired of having constant battles in the mornings.

Now, she wakes up and she's 15 minutes ahead of the game! And the best part? No more stress and anxiety on her end. Now that's a win win! (P.S. In case you're wondering, no, she doesn't wake up with wrinkled clothes!)

MAKE YOUR BED

I live and breathe this morning hack! It gets you motivated after you get out of bed since it's something that you can accomplish in less than a minute. Everybody in my house has to make the bed when they get up, even my younger kids. We make this super easy because we all have Beddy's zipper bedding (use the code FUNCHEAPORFREE20 for 20% off!), so making your bed is as easy as zipping a zipper!

Even if you don't have zipper bedding, still take the quick time to make your bed. Then, at least if nothing else gets accomplished by the end of the day, you've still made your bed and that's something to be happy about!

CREATE A LUNCH/SNACK SYSTEM

If you've read any of my posts or watched any of my videos, you've probably heard me talk about this morning hack that will change your life! I have my kids pack their lunches at night so that we're not rushing to get all of them packed in the morning. I go into more detail in my lunch and snack system post, but basically I have baskets in my pantry that are solely for school snacks and lunches. This allows my kids to take their time in the evening to figure out what they want for lunch the next day.

I no longer have to figure out what to pack them in the mornings and they get to feel independent and in control of what they eat (while I'm still ultimately the one who is in control since I buy the food for them!). Doing this also saves us so much money compared to if we were to just give each of them lunch money for school. I know that my kids are eating healthy and we're not having to take out a second mortgage to feed them the school lunches.

UTILIZE LEFTOVERS

I don't know how you do it in your house, but we eat leftovers for lunch in my house! My kids will take them to school, I'll eat them at home, and Bubba will even take them with him when he has to go into the office. We use insulated thermos containers to take our leftovers in and they work great to keep the food warm all the way until lunch! This works great for those days when my kids really aren't feeling like eating a cold sandwich for the 4th day in a row, it gives them some variety without having to buy a warm lunch at school.

WRITE LUNCH NOTES IN ADVANCE

I love to send personalized notes in my kids' lunches that lets them know that they are loved and gives them some encouragement to get through the day. But who has time to do that in the mornings and in a way that the kids won't see what you're writing? My hack for this is to get a pack of sticky notes or index cards, sit down with the tv on, and get to writing those notes until you've gone through the whole pack!

This will save you so much time in the morning. My kids really look forward to seeing what I've written and always tell me how special those notes are to them, so I have really embraced this morning hack so that I don't have to worry about having the time to write them in the morning.

MAKE AHEAD BREAKFAST

This morning hack will really save you some time in the morning, while also allowing you to feed your family a healthy, hearty breakfast. Now don't get me wrong, we love some milk and cereal in our house! But it's more of a snack food for us. Our kids are usually hungry like 30 seconds later and it's just too much sugar to start off the day with.

But who has time to make a hot meal in the morning? If you do, then I am slow clapping for you right now because that takes some dedication! We usually take some time on the weekends to whip up some make-ahead breakfasts that we can freeze.

You can also check out a post on my new ShelfCooking.com site that goes over all of our favorite make ahead breakfast ideas in one post. Make your breakfast ahead and then all it takes is a microwave or toaster in the oven and you have a nice, hot breakfast that will really help to fill the kids up and get them prepared for school.

KEEP THINGS ON HAND

This is a morning hack that has really kept me from frantically running around trying to find all of the things that I need. I used to run around looking for shoes, socks, toothbrushes and hair products in all of the rooms and bathrooms and it was just a mess. Now, all of the socks and shoes are downstairs so that they can easily be grabbed and put on as we're walking out the door. I keep all toothbrushes and toothpaste in the downstairs bathroom so they can brush their teeth after breakfast without everybody having to run upstairs to do it and risk somebody getting distracted and doing something else.

CREATE A HAIR BAG

One thing that I recommend is to create a hair bag or box that has all of the hair products that you could possibly need to get everybody ready to go out the door looking put together and not like little hot messes. I keep our favorite Bathpack hairbrush, cute scrunchies (use code FCOF10  for 10% off!), a spray bottle, clips, and my favorite boy's hair gel together so that I can easily do their hair while they're eating breakfast, reading, or working on spelling words in the morning. It has really saved us some time and is one of my favorite morning hacks!

If you want more help setting up routines and systems like this, then I have a program just for you! It's called Productivity Boot Camp (use the code FCFBLOG for 10% off!) and it really helps you to have a much smoother day just like these morning hacks will.

Crockpot oatmeal the night before. Hot breakfast when you wake up! Love it. Many recipes on the Internet. I keep mine simple and add any extras afterward.

These are such great tips! For another easy breakfast: I’ll make a double batch of muffins and freeze them, then pull out what I need and stick them in the microwave for a bit and then BAM! Great, easy breakfast (and can be taken on the go!).

I’ve learnt the hard way to get dressed as soon as you get up! Because as soon as the kids start needing you, it almost never stops! Also, am I the only one who never makes a their bed?

PLEAS PLEASE, where can I get printables for chores during school period. We are using the summer clipboard but I would love to see examples of what you do during fall and winter.

‘Yes’ to half of these – a firm ‘no’ to the other half! Everyone definitely needs to make their own bed every (every!) day BUT only after pulling back all covers, plumping pillows and opening all windows so that beds and bedclothes can air and cool properly for half an hour. Dust mites, moulds etc are not anyone’s friends (this is one of the main reasons that I’m not a fan of the hyped Beddys).

Our boys sleep in their next day’s clothes too. They always wear sweatpants anyway, so they are very comfortable.
