Today is special because I’m bringing you a famous recipe for 400 Dollar Chocolate Chip Cookies, brought to you by our very own FCF team member, Kerianne! She made these the other day and they were so beautiful, I asked if she’d share the recipe with us all! This awesome cookie is one you will surely want to add to your arsenal of favorites! The best thing about these chewy morsels of goodness is the secret ingredient that makes them that way. Curious?? Hold on to your hats folks, because this one’s a keeper. 400 Dollar Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe
So, I know what you’re asking yourself… why on Earth are they called $400 Cookies? Well, there’s a story behind that!
Urban Legend (okay, my sister-in-law told me, that counts right?) tells that someone asked a famous restaurant for the recipe, and was given the paper copy, along with a bill for $400 — she in turn, shared the recipe all over to make sure everyone could try it, and not get stuck with the bill! While I am pleased to share that these cookies will NOT cost you an arm and a leg, they would be worth it if they did!
Now, onto the recipe!

$400 Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 1 pound butter
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 5 cups oatmeal (measure 5 full cups, then grind to a powder)
- 2 tsp of baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 bag mini M&M’s
- 1 handful dark chocolate chips (or to your liking)
- 1 handful semi-sweet chocolate chips (or to your liking)
Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla. Sift and add flour, ground oatmeal, soda and salt. Add M&M’s and chocolate chips. (Note – this dough is THICK. Like work-your-arm-out thick. Don’t be worried, it’s supposed to be that way! Sometimes, I put the dough on the counter, and fold in the M&M’s and chocolate chips in by kneading it like bread. True story! Worth the effort… PROMISE!)
Place golf ball size balls on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 min. or until light brown.
There you go! Easy, delicious, and worth $400. Well, in theory, anyway. Thanks for letting me share!
