THE BEST MONEY MANAGEMENT APPS TO TRACK YOUR BUDGET

There are seriously so many different money management apps out there. We've rounded up the top apps that will help you kick your budget in the teeth. Do a little happy dance and then get to budgeting, already!

QUBE MONEY APP

Okay. Stop the presses, you guys! If you love our envelope budget system, then this is the app for you. Say hello to Qube Money, a new budgeting and banking app that is pretty much the digital version of the envelope method and SO much more.

It's an app and debit card combo that allows you to be intentional by dividing your money into budget categories called “qubes.” And you guys, it is so dang easy to use. When you are ready to spend from a category, you simply:

  • Open up the app
  • Tap the dollar amount in the qube to open it
  • Swipe your card or tap your phone

The awesome thing about this app is that as you spend money, it updates in real-time, so you're always on the same page with your partner. Anyone out there ever blown through their budget for the month after one trip to Target? Not with Qube, you won't! Because you have to look at your plan each time you spend, you can say buh-bye to overspending. (Including home decor at Target. #SorryNotSorry)

Qube puts you in complete control of every transaction out of your account. If you're done with a subscription, you can kill it right in the app! Qube also restores the power of payment authorizations to you instead of the bank, so it's pretty much the safest card on the planet.

Are you saying “sign me up!” yet? Qube offers three account plans: they have a free basic account, which is limited in its functionality, and two paid premium accounts. One of our favorite features of premium is the ability to add a companion or kid's card. This is the perfect way to teach your kids or teens some financial responsibility! #RaisingCapableKids

YNAB

There's a reason this is one of the most popular money management apps out there! You Need A Budget, or YNAB, basically forces you to look at every penny you have and give it a purpose. They follow 4 rules that are simple, yet powerful, when put together:

  • Give every dollar a job.
  • Embrace your true expenses.
  • Roll with the punches.
  • Age your money.

This budget app is very effective and it will really help you get everything in order! The only drawback is that it's not free. (Wah waahh…) You get a 34-day free trial to make sure you like it, then you have to pay a monthly fee. There's also an annual plan which will save you some dinero if you absolutely love the app. Who knows, maybe that fee isn't so bad if it's helping you to keep everything in check and reach your financial goals faster!

EVERYDOLLAR

Here's a great budgeting app that you definitely want to look at! EveryDollar makes creating a budget super easy. Add your monthly income, plan your expenses, and track your spending throughout the month. Easy as pie! The only downfall? You have to manually enter your expenses with the free version.

MONEY MANAGEMENT APPS WITH ONLINE ENVELOPE SYSTEMS

While we love an easy paper envelope budgeting system, we realize that's not for everybody. If you're techy and completely opposed to the simple paper and pen approach, then you'll love these apps! Especially if you need a little more hand-holding to keep your spending in check.

GOODBUDGET

Goodbudget is one of the most popular money management apps for keeping track of your budget and envelope system in one easy-to-use place. They have free and paid versions you can choose from, depending on if you need more envelopes, accounts, and years of history to look back at. You should definitely give this one a try and see if it helps with your envelope budgeting needs!

    Jordan,

If you don’t use an online/app system, are you using an excel/google sheets document instead? I’m frustrated that Mint will not let me set up percentages for budgets.

Yes, excel/google sheets is definitely the way to go if you don’t like what the apps are offering! They’re a great way to help keep everything straight.

Goodbudget is my absolute favorite. I love that I have so much control of where and what the money does. I will every couple of years try the other most popular ones again and I go back to this one every time.
