I know I'm on an Oprah kick, finding all these articles. But they are really helpful!
This article by Suze Orman is especially awesome. It lists 7 simple money mistakes we all probably make. Some of the things she suggests we do:
- Opt for a higher deductible on insurance. While it saves you money monthly, it typically leads to your premium (monthly payment) increasing dramatically over time. Just for the record, I'm on the fence with this one. Because of our HSA we really benefit from a low deductible each month, and it has saved our family financially. Do what you can afford and take all our differing advice with a grain of salt! 🙂
- Get a car loan that's 36mo or less. If the payment is too high for you with the shorter loan, shop for a cheaper car. (Great advice!)
- Don't let your child go to an expensive college that you can't afford. Start planning early for college expenses to help. She gives great advice on this one.
