Homemade laundry detergent recipe

A friend of mine SWEARS by homemade laundry detergent. We all know I'm a bit of a laundry snob, but I can't deny the savings! Plus, it looks pretty darn easy to make. Here's her recipe:

Combine:
1 bar Fels-Naptha soap, grated (you can use a food processor I've heard)
2 c. Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda (different from baking soda)
2 c. 20 Mule Team Borax

Use 2 T. per load

That's it! Crazy-easy, right?

This also works for the new high efficiency washers that have to have low sudsing detergent. It's more cost-effective than store-bought soaps, it works great, and has a fresh clean scent.
I don't know, I might just have to try it… (anything to save a buck, right??)

I’ve been using one similar to this since I saw it on “One Good Thing” blog. I like it but next time I make it I will use 2 of the Pyrex Fabric softener crystals for a stronger scent. I have always used liquid washing detergent so I was very hesitant. I didn’t want powder residue on our clothes. I’m happy to say that I’ve never seen any residue and clothes smell clean and are clean! ?
