It's official…I'm breaking up with “What to wear Wednesday“. As I explained here, you guys want more fashion on this blog, so frugal fashion is what you'll get! BUT…I just can't seem to get my act together enough to get it out regularly on Wednesdays. Call it summer, call it laziness, call it the “I just really don't care enough about Wednesday” syndrome…but whatever it is, I just can't seem to do it. Thus I'm simplifying my life and will now call it “Frugal Fashion Breakdown” so I can post it on whatever day I feel like. And now I can sleep at night.
For Father's Day I took Bubba shooting and to a greasy bar/diner we've always wanted to try for dinner. Romantic, eh? In all honesty…I really don't like guns. They creep me out. But my husband loves them. He's been trying to get me to a shooting range for years, and I've always been a poop about going. So he was beyond thrilled at the QT activity that I arranged for us. Anything for this guy.
And, me being me, I couldn't NOT take an opportunity to dress up – even for the gun range.
So here's my outfit breakdown for our Father's Day date:
(PS Sorry for the bad pics, they were taken with my greasy phone)
I liked this outfit for a number of reasons. For one, it made me feel cute, which isn't easy when you're 16 weeks pregnant and feel kinda nasty most of the time. For two, it is super comfortable which is a must with life in general, not to mention a gun range date. Here's the breakdown:
- TOP: C/O Necessary Clothing. Isn't it cute? The exact top I have is gone, but THIS ONE is pretty close. I love it because it's lightweight, easy to wash, and the bow is just pretty darn fun don't you think?
They were nice enough to send it to me just for fun, but it retails for about $25. I'm sure if you waited it would go on sale, or you could search for a coupon code online. I'm super into solid colored (or lightly patterned) sheer/flowy tops that can go with just about anything, and don't cling to me. This is one of the reasons I don't really buy maternity clothes – the tops I have are typically loose-fitting enough that I can wear them even with a big belly.
- LEOPARD SKINNIES: I got these on clearance at Target a few years back for about $10, as explained in THIS POST. At first I hardly wore them because I felt like they were too loud and “look at me”. But eventually I embraced the animal print and have realized that when I pair them with a solid (usually light-colored) top, they really aren't too bad…or, at least, I don't think they are…?
- SHOES: Oxford wedges from Zulily, they were right around $20 I believe, but as you probably guessed, I got them for free because I had $30 in “refer a friend” credit stored up. Let me tell you something about these shoes…I LOVE THEM. Like, so so so so so so so much. Every woman needs a pair of tan oxford wedges in their closet. Seriously! They go with EVERRRRYYYYTTTHHHIIINNNG. And since they are wedges they are super comfortable. I wear them to just about every speaking engagement and conference I go to because they make me feel cute, but don't make me want to chop my feet off at the end of a long day. Best “investment” ever, especially because they were free.
Oh, and that cute little “Piaper bag” as I call it, photo-bombing the above picture? Also from Zulily, also obsessed with it, and it was also under $30. It's tan (again, goes with everything and stays clean-looking), durable, has short straps AND a long strap, it's big and open with no dividers and holds the entire world, just like the magical Mary Poppins bag. It's the best bag EVER. I could marry it if that wasn't weird. Or probably illegal.
- NECKLACE: I love this necklace. Got it from my gals at Cents of Style. I'm addicted to that store, it's amazing! It's all online, they have fabulous flash sales on Fridays (check my Frugal Find Friday posts, I often post about their clearance/flash sales for that week), and their stuff is quality, cute, and affordable.
So there you go! Had a great night in a great outfit. Now, if you don't mind me, I have a target to demolish.
