Ta da!
THE BEST BUTTERMILK SYRUP
Truth is, this syrup is pretty versatile. You can make this syrup on the stovetop or in the microwave! You can serve this syrup on waffles, pancakes, german pancakes, french toast, ice cream… you get the picture!

Money saving tip: Buttermilk can be expensive and sometimes hard to find, so here is a tip. For every cup of buttermilk you need, take a cup of regular milk and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar. Stir the lemon juice into the milk and let it sit on the counter for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
EASY BUTTERMILK SYRUP RECIPE
Let's make some delicious buttermilk syrup, already!

Nana's Buttermilk Syrup
Ingredients
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ tsp baking soda
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt butter. Add sugar and buttermilk. Stirring often, let come to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Add vanilla and baking soda, stir. Syrup will become foamy.
- Let it rest for a few minutes. Serve warm, store leftovers in the fridge.
Notes
Microwave Tip: If you want to make this syrup in the microwave – it's super easy! Melt butter in microwave. Add sugar and buttermilk. Heat another 45 seconds until sugar dissolves. Add baking soda. Heat 15 seconds. Stir (it will foam). Add vanilla. Serve hot.
Now go make yo'self some waffles… or just dish up a giant bowl of ice cream and smother it in syrup. You can thank me later!

I love this blog!!! Can I put some of these on Pinterestt??. Love love love all the easy recipes…
I just made this to our over French toast and it’s really delicious. It’s a bit sweet so next time I may pull back on the sugar amount but it’s quite nice.
So glad to hear you loved it! Definitely feel free to cut back on the sugar, it’ll still taste just as good! 🙂
Love the original – typically make it with half the sugar for our taste. I just tried it tonight and swapped half the milk for pumpkin puree and then added a few more spoonfuls of pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice to make it a pumpkin syrup… divine!!! ❤
Yum! That sounds amazing!!
Can you please give me a suggestion of what to store a large amount if
in, if I am planning on making it a few days before a wedding reception? I would like to make it a head of reception and then warm it up at reception.
Ran out of maple, so I tried this. Even my stubborn husband enjoyed it!
Yay! So glad to hear!
