Welcome back to Foodie Tuesday!
Today is a clever AND yummy food tip/recipe, if I do say so myself 🙂
Last week I shared a tip with you about getting discounted bread from bakeries for super cheap (see HERE). This week we thoroughly enjoyed our discounted bread, but it started getting dry. And frankly, it was a lot of bread…we're a bit sick of eating it. I chose not to freeze it because we don't have much room in our freezer right now.
Today's tip?
Don't throw out stale or unused bread…use it!
This goes for rolls, bread, buns, any type of bread you have lying around.
I decided to make croutons with mine.

Here's how you do it:

Take your unwanted bread,
And brush it with melted butter on both sides. You could also use spray margarine that you can buy at the store, or you could also use cooking spray for a lower-fat option.
Cut your buttered bread into cubes.
Lay them out on a baking sheet
Sprinkle with seasonings if wanted. I used some good-ol-garlic seasoning.
Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.
I baked mine for a little bit too long. Just know that they continue to bake/harden once taken out of the oven, so take them out a smidgen earlier than you would think.
And there you go! Store in a ziplock baggie or airtight tupperware container. Enjoy your fresh, crunchy, and FREE croutons! Trust me, your friends will be so impressed 🙂
Sill have bread that you need to use up?
Make breadcrumbs
Simply leave your bread out so it gets dry and crumbly. Crush it to bits in a food processor, or cut it up with a knife until it's all crumbs. Store in the freezer in an airtight container or baggie, and use to bread anything – chicken, sandwiches, sprinkle on top of casseroles, whatever!
I HATE wasting food, so always try to find a way to creatively use it. Throwing food out is a quick way to waste money. Don't you feel more frugal already?? 🙂
Happy tuesday 🙂
