Focused in ’17: The Best Year EVER…FREE printable program for Freebs!

FREE monthly challenges to help you focus and organize your year - SO GOOD! From FunCheapOrFree.com

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to kick 2017's trash, especially after my major declaration from the other day. Don't get me wrong, 2016 was a good year. It was a great year for us, actually. But this year? Watch out, world!

As mentioned in my last post, I've decided to go back to my roots and blog for YOU, ME…and…well, that's it! I was thinking back to one of my favorite blogging years, and it was 2014. I did a year-long challenge with y'all, Focused in '14, and it helped me organize my year, get focused, prioritize, lose weight, become closer with family and friends, and have more fun.

The challenges really worked…so we're bringing them BACK!

Join me this year as I tweak and perfect and re-introduce this new and improved, completely FREE program I now introduce…

Focused in '17: The BEST Year Ever Program! (Or, BYE'17 as I'll call it to sound cool.)

Here's how this FREE program will work…

1- Sign up HERE

You'll be added to an email list (that will remain private of course). You will be emailed a calendar with the challenges for the month, and we will also email you when I post a video or blog post that coincides with the BYE'17 program.

2- Follow the calendar

Each month I will create a calendar that has a monthly theme. I am subject to change my mind, of course (because I'm doing my blog my way, remember? Ooh, that still sounds so good…) and I don't want to give away all the fun, but some of the month themes will include:

  • Focus on Finances
  • Focus on Fitness
  • Focus on Organization
  • Focus on Fun
  • Focus on Relationships

And more!

There is a box in the lower corner of each day. Use that as a check-box to keep yourself on track! Mark it off for every day you work on the challenge(s) for the week.

There's not enough room on the calendar to really explain all the challenge details, so the easiest thing to do is to get on the email list and follow along on the blog and YouTube, I'll post lots of helpful tips and how-to's there!

3- Get your friends and family involved!

My goal is to keep the excitement and momentum going for this all year long, and not have it fizzle off like Resolutions tend to. My best advice to you to do the same, is do this with a buddy! Wither it's your husband, best friend, sisters, girlfriends, whatever! The buddy system works. You can work on challenges together, talk about how it's going, encourage each other, and…let's be honest…it's just more fun with friends!

I meant to post this post on the 30th. But when I sat down to write it, this post came out instead. And I don't like to post on Sundays (day of rest, after all!). Thus,

Since it's Jan 2nd already, here are the challenges that start RIGHT NOW!

CASH-ONLY MONTH:

Even if you have no credit card debt, chances are, making and keeping a budget is hard for you. How do I know? It's hard for all of us! Even me, and this is what I DO! For the next month, commit to using CASH ONLY. It will help train your brain that “when it's gone, it's gone.” It helps cut back on impulse-buys, and trains your brain that you only have a certain amount to spend each week, and choices need to be made to keep from running out of cash too quickly!

Here are some tips for success:

  • Decide what your spending budget is for the month, then break it down per WEEK. That's right, per WEEK. Every Monday, run to the ATM or bank and get out your cash for the week. If you try to budget for an entire month you're most likely going to lose track and run out of steam. 7 days? Piece of cake!
  • How to decide your budget? First, you need to divide up financial responsibilities. Once you have the list of things YOU are in charge of, set a budget for it, and go from there.
  • Make it tight, make it a challenge! If you give yourself $3K per week, where's the challenge? (And holy cow, you can probably be spending a lot less. Think of what vacations you could go on with that money!) Take what you spend in a month, cut it down by at least 30%, then break it down by week. The goal is to have the BEST YEAR EVER, and how will you do that if you don't push yourself a bit?

I'll try to pop onto Facebook for a live Q&A to go over these tips and challenges in more detail, so follow me on Facebook and turn on your notifications so you don't miss it!

Next challenge…

PLAN YOUR YEAR IN ADVANCE!

For sake of ease and organization, I explain all of this in THIS post + video.

  3. I am so much older than you and have grandkids older than yours and I’m telling you this to keg you know you have followers of all ages!
Thank you for all you do and I love reading your words!
Blessings to you for doing what you want and thus grandma is very proud of you!

  4. I am moving next week and for the past few weeks I’ve been rereading your posts/videos and couldn’t get enough of them! You are such a motivator. I was just going to follow your cleaning challenge month once I move since I Am having a brand new start. Girl I tell you i only have two kids and a helper life sometimes still too busy to focus on things and you are just doing the best thing when I just need it! Sorry it’s my first time leaving a comment after following you for so many years, was so scared you were going to close the blog when I read the last post. Keep up the fantastic work Jordan!

  5. I want 2017 to be better than last year was and hopefully planning and doing your monthly goals will help! Thank you! Don’t know how you do it all.

  6. Dear jordan
You’re an inspiration to me!!! I want to follow you for the whole year and i’m really excited how it works for me as i live in switzerland with my four kids and husband…
    love you
    Giuanna

  7. So excited for this! I know 2017 is going to be the best year yet! I can’t wait to get started… My husband and I have NEVER had money talks. He spends I try to pay the bills. I am DONE. We are getting ready to get organized, less stressed, happy, and have a great year!!!! Thank you for all you do and your tremendous help for our finances, I’ve prayed for so long for a clear direction and I think I may have found it thanks to you!!! Love, Jennifer

  8. I’m going to follow along the best I can, but I already have a budgeting system I love. So instead, I will just cut back wherever I can. This comes at a good time because we just decided to put our son in drum lessons and that will be an extra $70 per month that we need to find somewhere. Also, due to the way deductions work here in Canada, my husband’s paychecks actually go down in January. That leaves us a few hundred dollars per month less than we have been living on!

Oh, for some reason, when I printed the calendar, it printed with a small inset portion of another calendar. Very strange. It doesn’t show at all when I look at the print preview!

    • We also have the goal of paying off our house next year (we are both turning 35 in 2018, and also celebrating our 15th anniversary!) which is a pretty lofty goal, but I’m hoping that this will help us get to that goal!

  9. I’m commenting as a way to help me commit! This makes it more real, right? I’m going to have to do the envelope budget system with my card instead of cash only because I live 30 miles away from my bank and can’t justify going and getting cash at the start of every week. It does make the meal planning easier, because my nearest grocery store is also 30 miles away (nearest Walmart is 60 miles away), so I always plan my meals for 1-2 weeks in advance. I want to get our student loans paid off this year so bad, so that is my goal! Mine will be easy ($3,000), but the husband’s will be more difficult ($30,000). We want to build a house in a couple years and those have to be gone before we do. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.

  10. Jordan,
I am a new follower and have enjoyed reading some of your past posts. Thanks for “keeping it real” and being so honest and candid. It helps me feel like “hey, I can do that” or “I soooo understand that”. Anyway, this month’s challenge was to use cash only. I already use cash for everything, but was curious about one of your statements about using a credit card to get the rewards points and paying it off at the end of the month. My husband and I have been talking about this for the last few months. I was hoping you could give some pointers about choosing a card. I don’t expect you to endorse any one in particular because that would put you right back to where you are trying to get away from on your “blogging”. So pointers would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  11. I’m not sure why buut this web site is loading incredibly slow foor me.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end?
I’ll check back later on and see if the problem stil exists.
