In case any of you are still looking for a perfect Valentine's Day gift for grandparents, your love, or even your friends, here's a fun idea from my friend Heidi from Honeybear Lane, a DIY, Crafts, and Lifestyle blog. Take it away Heidi!
Thanks Jordan! Ready to do a fun (and cheap) craft? It's February–the month of LOVE. This craft is perfect because it's a great gift idea, cute decor for around the house, and it allows you to channel your inner 8-year-old self and doodle your little heart out!
Here's what you need:
- Ceramic bowls, mugs or plates. I used cheap, thrifted bowls.
- Sharpies. Be sure to use the PAINT Sharpies. They work the best for these and they are non-toxic. I have heard of others having a hard time making the regular Sharpie stay on even after baking but the Paint Sharpies worked awesome.
Here's what you do:
- Doodle away!
I'm no artist so these are far from perfect but that's the beauty of it. And if you mess up a little, you can always doodle around it and no one will even know. Just go wild! I tried not to touch the areas I'd already drawn on just in case they smudged.
Don't forget the inside!
- Next, bake it in the oven at 425 degrees for a half hour.
When the timer is up, turn off the oven and let it cool in the oven. This is the best way to get that marker to really adhere to the ceramic and it shouldn't wash off. I haven't actually tested it in the dishwasher so maybe hand-wash just in case. I used them more for decoration than for actually eating.
That's it! So easy, I hope you enjoy! I'd love for you to visit me at Honeybear Lane for more inspiration–crafts, DIY home projects, sewing & quilting, and more!
