Slow Cooker Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Sandwich Recipe

 

In respect of “No eating out!” week to help us Focus on Finances this month, I thought I'd pull out some BOMB DOT COM (Oh yes I did) recipes for you this week! Since we all know that A) I'm no Rachael Ray and B) I'm downright horrible at taking photos, especially of food…I thought I'd enlist the help of my friend Alli at Cupcake Diaries to share one of her most popular recipes! Hi! I am so excited to be here at Fun, Cheap or Free sharing one of my favorite recipes with you! My crock pot and I are besties. We have a dinner date at least once a week and it's wonderful. I love my crock pot!

This pulled pork recipe is my very favorite sandwich recipe. So may things make it the best. Not only is it super easy to make, but you can't mess it up! It's wonderful. There's so much flavor and just enough kick from the mustard, making a seriously delicious combo of sweet and savory. The key to the deliciousness of this sandwich is making the sauce from scratch. The simple ingredients make a rock star sauce. And you most likely have all the ingredients already in your pantry! Yummy yummy.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

INGREDIENTS
2lb Pork roast
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 Large onion slices
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 Can Dr. Pepper (don’t use diet!)
1 ½ Cups ketchup
2 Tbsp mustard
½ tsp garlic powder
1 tsp honey
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
¼ Cups brown sugar
 
DIRECTIONS
  • Salt & Pepper the roast well. Place in a large crock pot with onions and garlic. Pour Dr. Pepper over the top. Cook on high 4-5 hours, or until the meat is tender enough to shred.
  • Remove roast from crock pot and shred. Pour most of the liquid out, leaving only a little at the bottom of the crock pot.
  • Combine ketchup, mustard, and honey, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and garlic powder (to make a sauce). Combine the sauce and shredded pork, and put back in the crock pot.
  • Cook on low 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until completely heated through. Serve on your favorite bun or roll. Enjoy!
Note: You can throw out the onions after cooking if you don’t like onions, but they make the flavor fantastic so use them while cooking!

  1. This will be my first time slow cooking a pork roast. How many will this serve. I might have up to 30 people at my house. My mouth is watering just thinking about this recipe!

    • Hello Julie!
      Yes it’s so good! If you’re having 30 people you’ll want to at least double the recipe. Just be sure to serve the pork on small rolls rather than large buns. People will be just as stuffed, but you won’t need to cook as much!

  2. A quick and easy way to shred your pork is to put it in your kitchen aid stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Turn that baby on and BAM instant shredded chicken.
